NEWS RELEASE:  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: April 5, 2012

Headline: Viva Verde attendees can register to win a free iPad

CONCORD– Wish you had an iPad? Be sure to mark down Saturday, April 14 on your calendar, where attendees at the third annual Viva Verde Earth Fest (VVEF) will have the opportunity win a free refurbished iPad 2.

To highlight the importance of reuse, VVEF organizers will award an Apple Certified Refurbished 16GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi to one lucky winner who registers for the drawing at the event.  Apple provides a one-year warranty on its Certified Refurbished products.

“We’ve all heard of the ‘3 Rs’: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and most of us concentrate on the last one,” said Cabarrus County Waste Reduction Coordinator Pete Pasterz.  “Recycling is great, but not as many of us appreciate the power of reuse—it saves even more energy and resources!   Refurbished is an upscale form of reuse.  The environment gets the benefits of not creating a new ‘thing;’ you get an item that is made as good as brand new, warranty and all.  How cool is that?”

VVEF is a fun, family–friendly event that seeks to promote a better understanding of the environment and environmental issues through experiences and education in order to help the public make positive choices to develop and maintain a sustainable lifestyle. The free event will take place on Saturday, April 14 (severe weather make-up day is April 21) from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. atNorthCabarrusPark(760 Orphanage Road).

Attendees will have the opportunity to recycle, reuse, shred, and safely dispose of unwanted items. The Kannapolis Police Department will be on site to collect prescription medications for safe disposal. Be sure not to miss the book and plant swaps, too. Just bring one and take one!

Other plans for the event include live music, information booths, nature walks, geocaching, arts and crafts, music, children’s activities, food, and more.
